Separation of Church and State

To understand the battles of the Religious Right and anti-Religious Left better (both of which are only part of the Right and Left, respectively), you need to understand that the battle is not just between right-wing theocrats and left-wing believers in religious freedom. While some of it may be that, much of it is between right-wingers who believe in religious freedom and left-wingers who want to effectively establish secular humanism as the official state religion.
